The King Koal Theater was  filled with laughter, popcorn, and a powerful message: the importance of medicine safety in every household. Hosted by the C.A.R.E. Coalition, FCCBH, Southeast Utah Health Department and Kiwanis Club, the Family Movie Night held in February brought together families from the community for an entertaining yet educational event.

As the lights dimmed and families settled into their seats, the screen illuminated with a family-friendly movie, setting the stage for an enjoyable evening. However, amidst the laughter and excitement, there was a crucial underlying theme woven into the fabric of the event: the safety of medicines within the home. Parents, take center stage in keeping the script relevant in your household. Keep your kids safe by educating them on the risks of misuse and abuse of prescription drugs. Let them know that prescription medications can be powerful and addictive. Teens who learn about the dangers of misusing prescription drugs from their parents or grandparents are 42% less likely to abuse prescription drugs than teens who do not.

The C.A.R.E. Coalition, known for its commitment to community health and well-being, took the opportunity to shine a spotlight on medicine safety—a topic often overlooked but essential for every household. With the aim of raising awareness and providing practical tips, the event served as a platform to educate families on the proper storage, usage, and disposal of medicines.

Before the event, families and  parents learned about the importance of keeping medicines out of reach of children, utilizing child-resistant packaging, and properly administering doses according to healthcare provider instructions.

As the movie came to an end and families began to depart, they left with more than just memories of a delightful evening—they left armed with valuable knowledge and resources to ensure the safety of their loved ones. The impact of the event extended beyond the confines of the theater, rippling through the community as families implemented newfound safety practices in their own homes.

The Family Movie Night organized by the C.A.R.E. Coalition was not just an evening of entertainment; it was a catalyst for change—a reminder that the well-being of our families hinges on our collective efforts to prioritize safety, especially when it comes to medicines. Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, the coalition continues to make strides in promoting healthier and safer communities for all.

As we reflect on the success of this event, let us carry forward its message of vigilance and responsibility, ensuring that every household remains a safe haven where families can thrive without fear of preventable accidents. After all, when it comes to medicine safety, a little C.A.R.E. goes a long way. For more information regarding Prescription Safety visit https://knowyourscript.org/
